RENOVATION & ADDITION

SUPPORTIVE ARCHITECTURE™ IN PRACTICE

OLD HOUSE - NEW SPIRIT

A chimney fire prompted the owners to reconsider their 250-year-old home and how it might better support the way they wanted to live.

They wanted more room, but they also valued the house’s age, its rocky setting, natural light, and connection to the landscape.

The addition created a new kitchen, sitting room, and entry on the first floor. Upstairs, an expanded bedroom and bath were connected to the living areas by a new stair. Views were opened, daylight was strengthened, and stone found on the property became part of the new work.

Rather than separate the addition from its setting, the decisions allowed the old house, new spaces, and landscape to belong together.
