RENOVATION & ADDITION
SUPPORTIVE ARCHITECTURE™ IN PRACTICE
LONG DISTANCE VIEWS
The owners chose an architect-designed home in a prominent location, but its inward-looking plan limited the light, views, and connections they valued.
Their decisions focused on changing that experience without losing the character of the original architecture.
The kitchen opened to views and a new eating nook. Dark corridors gained long-distance sightlines, bringing light and visual connection through the house and making a large home feel more intimate. A screened porch strengthened the connection outdoors, while the primary suite, bathrooms, and lower level adapted to the owners’ needs.
Five years later, a second phase completed the connection between the house and garage and renewed the apartment above.
Throughout both phases, the original architect’s characteristic details remained important. The house changed without losing its identity.
