LIGHT & AIRY
Doing more with less.
The homeowners loved the minimalist character of their modern home and wanted a large screened porch that extended outdoor living through much of the year.
Their priorities called for restraint rather than complexity.
We approached the porch almost like a haiku—doing more with less. A 24-foot square rests on four anchoring posts. A barrel-vaulted clerestory brings light into its center and helps capture seasonal warmth when conditions allow.
Around it, a curved deck provides circulation and contrasts with the porch’s simple geometry. The result is both minimal and expressive—a sheltered outdoor room that remains connected to its surroundings.
Years later, the house sold. On the day of closing, the new owners called about another project. They said they had bought the house because of the porch.
